40 Days + 40 Nights

40 DAYS AND 40 NIGHTS, 10in.x13in. each, individually mounted, mixed media
40 Days and 40 Nights is a personal reflection on the highly explosive topic of Christian dogma and how it intersects with contemporary America's search for meaning. Comprised of 40 crosses and informed by a spotty religious education, this work looks at the dilemma.

40 DAYS AND 40 NIGHTS, installation view
The cross is an icon with far reaching implications. It can provide a source of guidance and comfort for some while defending political policy for others. Cultural notions of good and evil, heaven and hell, and even reproductive and lifestyle choices are evoked by this symbol.

ABOUT

Through her diverse sculpture, conceptual artist Pamela DeTuncq addresses some of the more compelling zeitgeists of contemporary American culture. After years in the design industry, she now applies her skills to multi-layered sculptural work addressing such disparate themes as teen alienation, gender stereotypes, and the vicissitudes of faith.
She earned her MFA in Visual Arts from the Art Institute of Boston and BA in Graphic Design from the University of Maryland. Her work has been shown nationally, with the Dennos Museum recently adding one of her fiber installations to their permanent collection.
